Alright, I'm back! I've been so busy finishing up school and graduating that I haven't had much time for sewing. Hopefully now that school is over I will have more time.
I don't have a picture this week, but let me paint one for you in your imagination. Now close your eyes and imagine......wait, don't close your eyes because then you won't be able to "read" the picture! Okay, here we go.
Sitting around a table are six elderly ladies and a teenager (this is me;)). There are nine squares of flanned on the table in a blue train print and in a blue clouds print. They are going to make a baby blanket. The elderly ladies are talking about how they used to sew clothes, quilts, curtains, doll clothes, just about anything you can name as the teenager facilitates them in laying the squares out in a pattern. One lady tells the woman sitting next to her that the squares have to be lined up perfectly, "they can't be crooked like you are." It's all friendly bantering and everyone joins in laughter and jokes. Another lady said that she could tell us anything we wanted to know about sewing, so someone asks, "What is a hammer used for?" She replied, "for hitting Crooked here on the head!" The teenager sewed the squares together into strips and the ladies put the strips together. After an hour, the group had completed the top of the baby blanket and they look forward to putting the back on in two weeks.
So, I volunteer at an assisted living facility near my house and I play the piano, sew, and (next week) bring my dog who is trained to be a therapy dog to visit the residents. We're working on a community service project and we're making a baby blanket. I walked off without my camera, but hopefully I'll have a picture of the finished project in a few weeks!
My favorite part??? The little puffy sleeves! I actually modified the pattern to make the sleeves extra puffy!
